Today I am going to tell you about
a man in the Bible named Joseph. His story starts in Genesis 37, he is
seventeen years old and God reveals to him in a dream that one day he will rule
over his brothers and his mother and father. For Joseph, this was a great thing
but not so much for his brothers and parents. Joseph was favored by his father
because his dad and mom had him in their old age. So to show that he loved
Joseph his father, Israel also known as Jacob, made him a coat of many colors.
Josephs brothers didn’t like him already because he was the favorite so this
made them absolutely despise him. Because Joseph’s brothers hate towards him
was so great they all conspired to kill him! One day when Joseph came to check
on them to see if they were doing their job they then decided that on that day
they would kill him. But the oldest of the brethren, Reuben, told them not to
kill him but instead to cast him in a pit so he could later deliver him back to
their father. His brothers agreed but they saw a company of Ishmaelite and they
sold him to them without Reuben knowing. So Joseph went from being his father’s
favorite/most loved to a slave. Joseph was a slave for 13 years; in those 13
years he worked hard but then was lied about so then he was sent to prison and
there he worked just as hard. In all of these years he never questioned or
cursed God. He had patience and faith that God would grant him what He promised
him all of those years ago. He pleased the Pharaoh by interpreting one of his
dreams and telling him what it mean and what he should do because of it. So to
bless Joseph, he made him second in command over all of Egypt. So basically
Joseph had to wait 13 years to receive something God told him He would give him
13 years prior. Josephs story is one of the greatest there is about Patience.
Throughout his entire journey he didn’t question or curse God, so I think we
all can take a lesson or two about Joseph. So the next time you (and me
included) get irritated about waiting, just tell yourself to be happy that you
don’t have to wait 13 years for something to happen. And always remember that
God is sovereign and what/how He is doing something always has a purpose behind
it. And if you do the right thing throughout it all, He will bless you.
